A.I. 2.0 - Improvements overview and suggestions

    While the recode was going on we were working tirelessly on upgrading the current AI systems as well as adding new Arch-types for a few new friends that might make an appearance in the near future

    Wolves:
    • Improved pack behavior. If a wolf spawns alone it will almost immediately call out for any wolves nearby. Once those wolves, or packs, hear it's call they will come and invite this newcomer into their pack, or form a new pack if they are two single wolves. Packs with 3-5 wolves already will ignore these new comers
      • Packs will circle their foe before attacking instead of lining up and will move more in between attacks.
    • Wolves in general will focus on ambushing the player more as well as flanking and getting behind the player
    • Improved animation sequences for things like sneaking, turning on the spot, etc etc
    • Wolves that can hear but not see the player will go investigate the general area where the sound was coming from
      • Once there if thy still don't have line of sight on the player they will search a 10-20 meter radius round the last heard sound in stealth mode meaning they will be in a lowered position and making no noise
      • This way wolves will be able to stalk the player through sound and smell alone and then eventually close on their position to attack
    • Wolves will be afraid of fire. Depending on the size of the fire, as soon as it is within a certain distance of the wolfs head the wolf will gain fear and retreat to a certain distance where they will either loose their fear and attack again or loose interest and go find easier prey. This will depend on if they are alone or in a pack as well as an element of random chance. Should have this in this week sometime with any luck
    Bears:
    • Will be a simpler version of the Wolf AI. They won't have pack behavior and will be less timid once engaged
    • They will obviously be the tanks of the animal kingdom, moving slower and drinking damage like Gatorade.
    Giant Spiders:
    • These pretty ladies will be found deep in caves and will eventually have the ability to spawn on the ceiling and slowly lower themselves to the ground on a thread. and
    • We haven't implemented a DOT poison effect yet nor web effects yet but both are likely in the cards
    • Apologies in advance for the screams and jumps they will cause but if you see webs on the walls getting thicker and thicker, chances are you'll want to go the other way
    Skeletal Archers:
    • Our first first ranged enemy will be making an appearance soon. The first version will likely be fairly rudimentary as a LOT of work is needed to get ranged enemies working properly.
      • Not just on the AI side of things but also on the player hitbox and health side of things.
      • Plus, because they are shooting arrows that travel slowly and experience severe drop as apposed to bullets, much work is needed to perfect their aim, particularly with moving targets
    Melee Ratkin Bandits:
    • We will likely pull heavily from the wolf class in the beginning for these guys. There's a lot of overlap and then from there we will work on anthropomorphizing the AI to fit better with the NPC it's being used on. They are going to be small agile dudes like Kubolds, not individually strong but strong in numbers

    Yep yep.. the bears are in our internal build for testing, all the new stuff is ready to go so that's good fun. Can't wait to get them into the alpha build for early testing and looking forward to everyone's thoughts on the characteristics or behavior they want for each of these new AI's
